Apple WWDC set for June 11-15, tickets already sold out

Apple announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place from June 11 through June 15 at San Francisco's Moscone West.

Tickets for the five-day tech event were again priced at $1,599, but if you haven't yet purchased yours then your all out of luck.  Just hours after tickets went on sale, the event was sold out.  The official WWDC site now says: "Sorry, tickets are sold out."

"We'll be posting videos of all our sessions shortly after the conference, so everyone can take advantage of great WWDC content for free."

The conference is only open to paid members of the iOS Developer Program, iOS Developer Enterprise Program, or Mac Developer Program.  At this year's conference, developers will learn about the future of iOS and OS X, allowing them to build incredible new apps. WWDC will also feature more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers as well as the popular Apple Design Awards, a showcase of the most outstanding apps from the past year.

“We have a great WWDC planned this year and can’t wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world.”

At WWDC, developers will be able to "explore the latest innovations, features and capabilities of iOS and OS X Mountain Lion and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance, quality and design of their apps." In addition, they can even bring their code to the labs and work with Apple engineers, applying development techniques and best-practices to enhance their apps.

Unfortunately, unlike previous years, Apple has barred ticket resale.

"WWDC tickets (including activation codes) are non-transferable and may not be sold, resold, or auctioned in any way," the WWDC website states.  Ticket transfers among team members will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Given the recent rumors that Apple plans to unveil the new iPhone 5 at WWDC, it's easy to see why tickets for this conference are a hot commodity.  Some expect the iPhone 5 and its new liquidmetal material will be shown off, though Apple has not confirmed any of this.
